Nieuwvliet-Bad: resort on the Zeeland-Flanders coast
Nieuwvliet has two village centres: Nieuwvliet-Bad and Nieuwvliet-Dorp. Nieuwvliet-Bad is an old-fashioned family resort with wide sandy beaches perfect for a day out. The beach markers here are designed with Miffy figures so that children don’t get lost. Nieuwvliet-Dorp is an inland settlement, with an attractive village centre and many characteristic houses.
Close to Nieuwvliet is the nature reserve of Verdronken Zwarte Polder. This is an old inundated polder which now has a diversity of landscapes, such as salt marshes, mud flats and dunes. It is home to a mixed flora and fauna, including uncommon warblers. In Verdronken Zwarte Polder there is a nature trail (2.5 km) and a bridleway.

Close to Nieuwvliet and taking in the Verdronken Zwarte Polder is the Land & water in Nieuwvliet trail. If you follow this route there’s a good chance of seeing some waterfowl and grassland birds. Are you more of a cyclist? If so, the ‘Grensstreek trail’ enables you to explore this part of Zeeland-Flanders and across the border into Belgium!

The beach at Nieuwvliet has two beach pavilions: De Boekanier and Strandpaviljoen Woest 17. If you’re looking for a drink and a bite to eat with amazing views out to sea, this is the place to be! Alternatively, inland you can find some great restaurants. At Restaurant De Zeeuwse Kust, you can try out some local delicacies.
Activities for kids in Nieuwvliet
There’s plenty to keep children entertained in Nieuwvliet. Take Speelboerderij Pierewiet, for example, an activity farm for kids with indoor and outdoor play areas. The farm also has activities such as handicrafts, pedal-karting, crazy golf and there is also a petting zoo. Looking for somewhere for a meal with the kids? The restaurant De Vijf Weeghen is highly recommended and has a large play area too.
