Sleeping in bunk beds. Playing on the beach. Zeeland is the ideal destination for families with children. But if the weather’s untoward, you might have to look for entertainment indoors. Whatever the weather, we’re happy to give you some inspiration for a great family holiday in Zeeland!
Playing stirs children’s imaginations. An indoor or outdoor playground is just the place to let your hair down and climb, clamber, play hide and seek, and run to your heart’s content. Zeeland has many different playgrounds: from a slide and a climbing frame by the marina to covered playgrounds inland. Molen de Jonge Johannes, for example. A scrumptious pancake restaurant and a playground paradise.
Zeeland has an extensive network of walking trails. Some however, might be a little ambitious for kids. So we came up with the idea of Parelroutes, literally ‘routes of pearl’. These are walks for the whole family. The routes are no more than five kilometres in length and are interactive. Routes may, for example, include tasks or treasure hunts. Audio and video clips for smartphones complete the picture, meaning the whole surroundings come to life and become part of your walking experience. Check out the Parelroutes here!
Check: parasol, sun cream, bucket and spade, towels! Zeeland is not really worth visiting without a dip in the sea. Safe swimming in the sea is best done on lifeguard-monitored beaches. There are signs along the beaches to tell you where lifeguards are present. There are fantastic beaches all along the Zeeland coast.
A family beach is best for children. For smaller children, there are tall poles with large figures on them, so that they can always find their way back if they get lost. The lifeguards and the First Aid help ensure you have a safe day at the beach. In the unlikely event of a youngster stepping in a shell, help is always close at hand.
Is your child not keen on the sand and sea? That doesn’t have to be a problem. In summertime many open-air swimming pools are open. These include Zwembad Stelleplas, Openluchtzwembad Aardenburg and the 'Vliegende Vaart' in Terneuzen.
There are more than enough indoor pools too. For example, 'De Bloesem' in Kapelle and the sub-tropical swimming pool at Roompot Beach Resort in Kamperland. There is choice enough.
