NL-Alert

The Dutch ‘NL-Alert’ system is the official channel for warning you of any emergency situation near you.  If you have switched emergency messaging on on your phone, you will automatically receive NL-Alert messages when in the Netherlands – even if you or your phone are from elsewhere.

You will only receive a NL-Alert in harmful or life-threatening situations. Your NL-Alert message will be in English or Dutch. Please read it, take all necessary action and come to the aid of others.

Switch your phone to emergency messages

Prior to your visit to Zeeland, be sure to check that your phone is switched on for emergency messages. On an iPhone, navigate to settings, notifications, (government) alerts and switch them on (unless already set). On an Android device, go to settings, notifications, advanced settings, wireless emergency alerts. Within the Netherlands, ‘NL-Alert’ will display. Switch it on.

How NL-Alerts work

NL-Alerts are broadcast from all the transmission masts of Dutch telecom providers in the coverage area designated by government in the event of a disaster, serious incident or critical event. You’ll find more information in English and Dutch at NL-Alert
