Those who like the urban hustle and bustle can enjoy street life and elegant town houses, all kinds of exciting festivals and events are organised and for lovers of aqua sports, the water is never far away. For kids too, every day is a ball in the summer holidays!
Festivals in Zeeland
Seasoned festival goers have known it for years: Zeeland is festival destination number one! Like at most festivals in the Netherlands, you can really let your hair down. From Concert at Sea to Beachboom, Festival Onderstroom and City of Dance. There’s never a dull moment if partying’s your thing!
Smaller celebrations are organised too. For example, many fishing villages have their own annual maritime festivals or summer street fairs. Check out the street markets in Zeeland page.

Watersports Walhalla
Some like to stretch out and sunbathe on Zeeland’s best beaches, whilst others prefer the thrill of watersports. Whether you choose the bracing waters of the North Sea or the more tranquil inland waters, such as Veerse Meer or Grevelingenmeer, there are countless great watersports you can practice. From paddleboarding to kitesurfing and from windsurfing to scuba diving. Canoes and boats can also be hired at many locations. Summer holidays in Zeeland with the kids
What could be more relaxing than a family holiday in Zeeland? There’s fun and games to be had on the beach and many campsites have a kids’ disco. Have fun plying the waters in a canoe, or visit an adventure playground or theme park. With so much going on for kids in Zeeland, parents find it easy to relax. Take them on a seal safari. Or go paddleboarding or canoeing on Veerse Meer. Did you know that Middelburg had its own mini theme park? Just the thing for the younger ones.
Our tip for something to do on a hot day: go on an oyster boat tour! Sailing on the Oosterschelde you will learn all there is to know about mussel and oyster farming in Zeeland. There’s more than enough to sample on board and the kids will love the boat trip.

Exploring Zeeland’s towns and cities
Had enough of the beach for one day? Why not visit one of Zeeland’s charming towns and villages? The larger towns have much to offer: shops, outdoor bars and restaurants, or fascinating museums. Neither will the smaller places disappoint. For example, Groede, Retranchement, Zierikzee, Veere or the old fortified town of Hulst. Book a guided town trail or explore for yourself. Zeeland’s towns and villages can also be explored by bike.
Fishery festivals in Zeeland
Various places throughout Zeeland organise weekly street markets and fairs during the summer. But you need to be in the right place at the right time. If so, you can enjoy some vibrant fishery and maritime festivals in Zeeland. So far, we have dates for the following in 2023:

- 13 to 15 July 2023: Visserijdagen Bruinisse (fishery days)
- 24 to 26 August 2023: Havendagen Zierikzee (maritime festival)
